Clear skin and exercise: how to have both!

Hey guys! This week I wanted to share a little bit about something that I take very seriously.. skincare! Exercise and skincare are both very important to me, and I’ve definitely noticed over the years that the more I exercise, the more prone to breakouts my skin can be. Since I don’t want to sacrifice clear and healthy skin or regular exercise, I’ve learned how to personalize my daily skincare routine in order to keep both equally in my life!

The main reason for workout-related breakouts is clogged pores, which can be easily avoided by making a few simple changes to your skin routine before, during and after any sweat session. I’ve made a list of the main things that have helped me maintain a clear complexion while staying on top of my regular exercise routine! I've also included a link to a homemade detox face mask recipe that I love to use at the end of the week! It's a great way to draw out any impurities that may have been missed from my usual cleansing. This mask ALWAYS leaves my skin feeling extra fresh and clean! 

  • Avoid wearing makeup while you workout.

Your skin is already more sensitive to oil build-up during this time because your pores open as you sweat, so the last thing you want to do is add an extra layer of makeup to add more potential for clogged pores, which hinder your skin's ability to breath naturally. TIP: If going straight to your exercise class or gym from work or school, pack some makeup removing wipes in your bag to use quickly before you get started with your workout. These things are so handy, I can't go one day without them!

My current favorite!

  • Use a clean towel to wipe your face as you sweat, NOT your hands!

I always make sure to have a clean towel or paper towels nearby to wipe my face throughout my workout. Your hands collect sweat and germs that won’t do your skin any favors by getting direct contact.

  • Wash your face ASAP.

Make-up wipes can be used immediately after to remove surface level sweat and dirt build-up, but they will never be as effective as washing your face with a cleanser of your choice.
