Fall in love with your life again!
I will be the first to admit that I’ve had many times in my life that I’ve found myself in an unfortunate funk. I’ve learned that there are many different causes that can trigger these kinds of feelings, including continuous cold weather, stress, weight gain, break-ups, daily routine boredom, the list goes on and on. While it is totally normal to have days or weeks when you’re just feeling off, the best thing you can do for yourself is have a plan of action to fight the blues right when you notice you’re feeling a bit out of whack. The problem with being in a funk is that the longer you let it go on, the more these unwanted thoughts stick around and become part of your regular thinking habits. Negative thinking has a way of affecting every aspect of your life, and knowing little ways to help you snap out of that “stinkin thinkin” will greatly improve your wellbeing and allow yourself to replace those negative thoughts with positive ones, before they have a chance to mess with your daily life and goals.
One habit I’m quite guilty of is daydreaming of ideas/activities with no action. I’m constantly thinking of things that I want to do or try for the first time, but never actually take the next step of going out and planning them. I know it can seem like a lot of extra effort and energy to find the time for new changes, but even just one tiny new addition to your week can have a huge positive impact. I’ve recently started making a bucket list with an assortment of (mostly) realistic ideas, and made a goal to do at least one new thing every other week. Now the key to my bucket list is that I choose ideas that can be completed in just a few hours.
My friends and I have started this new “Sunday bucket list” tradition, so every Sunday we try to plan an activity that is different than our usual lazy Sundays. Since starting this, I can honestly say I’ve felt happier and more full of life than I have in a very long time. It’s so crazy how one small change from your usual routine can bring so much new light to your mood. It may sound cheesy, but I honestly believe that these little bucket list days have really made me feel a newfound excitement for life and everything out there that I have yet to experience. Any time I find myself feeling a bit bored with life/lacking motivation, I immediately plan a bucket list activity. These have quickly become my favorite days of my week!
The great thing about this is that there are SO many options for absolutely anyone’s bucket list no matter what your interests are. Start by setting aside just one day, any day of the week, that is exclusively bucket list day! It can range from going to a comedy show or taking a cooking class, to a hot air balloon ride or skydiving, this is YOUR time to explore your interests and really enjoy all of the various things life has to offer!
